How to Set the Mood for True Relaxation

How to Set the Mood for True Relaxation

Perfection doesn’t exist, but setting the perfect mood does. When we hear the words “set the mood”, we’re instantly conditioned to believe a romantic night with your significant other. Back in the day, that was things like a nice, cozy restaurant, or a hotel room for the night decorated with rose petals and candles, or a simple candlelit dinner. Today, those may look a little different, but still backed by a somewhat similar idea.

However, setting the mood also incorporates a vast majority of moments. For most of us, our days are filled with:

  • Working long, grueling hours
  • Taking care of the kids or family members
  • Attending appointments (meetings, doctor visits)
  • Maintaining chaos at home
  • Planning and organizing

And if you’re like me, running a small business, which within itself can be overwhelming at times, especially in the beginning. And all of this while trying to navigate the outside world and the chaos that touches our everyday lives, even if we aren’t directly involved.

With all this and more in our daily lives, when do we ever have the time to set the mood for anything that would be beneficial to ourselves?

Well, maybe now is the time to do so. You don’t need a lavish, over the top, restaurant or hotel room. Although a hotel for one is not completely off the table. Instead, you can try a few of these helpful scenarios right at home.

The main purpose of setting a mood in this capacity is to center yourself amongst all of life’s chaos. For everyone, this looks different and depends on your lifestyle. However, despite your lifestyle, all is not lost.

Here are some ways to set up a relaxing mood for one.

Turn your bathroom into a 30-minute spa

Spas can be expensive, especially these days. Yet that doesn’t mean you have to miss out on the experience of relaxation. Now I’m sure you’ve heard it plenty of times, about having a spa day at home, but have you tried it yet?

Believe it or not, it doesn’t take much to set the mood of a spa theme within your own bathroom. Of course, the first step is to have a clean bathroom. But once that’s out of the way, you can set the mood to your liking.

Such things as clean towels, a bathrobe, lavender scented items like soaps, potpourri, a reed diffuser or candles, are just a few items you use to set around the room for a more relaxing environment in a small space.

Once your environmental mood is set, you can add some additional forms of comfort such as a scented bath bomb for the water, a good book (physical copy), and your favorite beverage. Drop a handmade “Do Not Disturb” sign on the outside of the door and you’re all set for 30 minutes of alone time.

Dedicate a space/room in your home to you

A dedicated space or room in your home is perfect for setting a mood. Why? Because you can decorate it any way you like, to help to boost your mood. The best space for this is a room where there’s a door that can help separate you from everything else.

But if you don’t have a spare room, then a corner in your apartment, while limited, can also do the job. Now, while this takes away the element of closing out the world around you, you can still set the mood in your designated corner.

Each space can be decorated with your favorite photos, comfy furniture, and items that will make it feel like a space away from the chaos in your life. And adding elements that bring you joy, such as plants, small crafts, games, and more, occupies your mind while you sit. And your favorite candle will always set the mood just right.

For a more playful atmosphere, you could also set up a tent, such as an indoor tepee for adults and cushions or soft pillows for that private feel.

A picnic for one at your favorite nature spot

There are not many people who think about this one. And I believe it’s because we’re conditioned to think a picnic is for family or friends. And while you could take a towel and water bottle to the park to lie in the sun, there’s something different about a picnic for one.

The best part about being outdoors and in nature is the peaceful moments that it brings. Even in the city, the right park can set the mood for relaxation. So why not pack yourself a basket or bag full of your favorite foods and drinks, along with a blanket, and head out to a spot in the park for the day?

You’ll soon see that the twenty minutes you set for yourself at the park will turn into an hour, maybe more, of enjoyment, just people watching or practicing mindful thinking while watching the sky.

Staycation at a local hotel for the night

Now, although we said that a hotel room isn’t needed, it still can be a good mood setter. It could be a great staycation away from the madness of everyday life. And what makes it work is that you don’t have to pay for a flight or go far.

Doing a staycation at a local, affordable hotel could be an incentive for yourself for all the hard work you put into your lifestyle. So pack two bags. One with your overnight clothes and the other with items that will turn your hotel room into a comfortable space within a comfortable space.

Be sure to pack a few decorations (not too many), your favorite candle or room spray, and a craft or hobby (crochet, book, or even a game). Choose a hotel that’s not only affordable but also up to par in its standards because a rundown place only takes away from setting your mood just right.

If hotels aren’t your thing, then a bed and breakfast or a cozy inn could do just fine.

There are so many more mood setters out there that can allow you to focus on you. These are just a few simple and affordable ways that you could start today and turn them into a habit that’s rewarding every time.

So which one are you going to try? Or do you have one that’s not listed and are curious to try? Well what are you waiting for. You wellbeing will thank you later.
